KIPP West Atlanta Young Scholars (WAYS) Academy is one of fifty-seven college-preparatory KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) schools operating in low-income urban and rural communities throughout the country. The school’s mission is to prepare students for top quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond by instilling in each student a commitment to scholarship, teamwork, integrity, and other “WAYS to success”. KIPP WAYS Academy opened its doors in July 2003 with 80 fifth graders, and the school currently has over 300 students in grades five through eight. Located at the former E. R. Carter Elementary School just blocks from the historic West End area of Atlanta, KIPP WAYS Academy is a public charter school with authorization granted by the Georgia State Board of Education through the Board of Education of Atlanta Public Schools.
KIPP WAYS Academy seeks experienced and energetic full-time teachers. The school day is from 7:30am-5:00pm. Saturday school is two to three Saturdays a month from 8:30am-12:30pm and summer school is held for three weeks during July. Each teacher is required to perform the following duties:
- Plan and implement engaging lessons in content area that are linked to state standards
- Implement the KIPP WAYS Academy school-wide student management syste
- Create and foster a positive learning environment
- Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents
- Attend all staff meetings
- Assist in development of curriculum standards and mapping
- Chaperone/plan local and out of state trips
- Assist with bus, lunch, and detention duties
- Teach non-core classes as needed
- Plan, organize, and/or sponsor extracurricular activities
- Serve on school committees as needed
- Perform clerical duties required with textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
- Remain on call in the evenings for student homework help via school provided cell phone
- Believe deeply in the mission and values of KIPP WAYS Academy
Qualifications
KIPP WAYS Academy requires the following qualifications for all teachers:
- At least two years of teaching experience
- Minimum of bachelors degree
- Experience/strength in content area
- Georgia Teaching Certification
- Commitment to and experience with underserved students
- Commitment to the design and development of KIPP WAYS Academy during its start up years

Compensation
Salary is based upon the Atlanta Public Schools pay scale, in addition to a supplement for extra hours. A competitive benefits package is also offered, including life, medical, dental, and vision insurance. Teachers at KIPP WAYS Academy participate in the Georgia Teacher Retirement System.
