Focus On Results
The two founding KIPP Academies remain among the best in their districts and the nation. In
2003, KIPP Academy Houston was named a No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education and is the first state charter school in Texas to be recognized with this distinction. KIPP Academy New York was awarded the 2004 Twenty-first Century Schools of Distinction award for academic excellence and is the highest performing public middle school in the Bronx (New York City Department of Education).

Since 2003, the alumni of the founding KIPP Academies have been graduating high school and attending four-year colleges and universities. Alumni who are freshmen in high school this year have earned over $3 million through the next four years at college-preparatory high schools. Alumni who are freshmen in college this year have earned over $1 million in scholarships and aid.

Snapshots of Success
As each KIPP School matures into a full fifth through eighth grade school, their students are demonstrating dramatic academic gains and narrowing the achievement gap in public education:
* In 2003-2004, KIPP Ujima Village Academy ( Baltimore, MD) fifth grade students performed better in math than any other fifth grade in the city of Baltimore.
* KIPP Gaston College Preparatory in rural North Carolina, has been a North Carolina School of Excellence for three years. In 2003-2004, its seventh graders had the third highest scores on the end-of-grade (EOG) writing test in the entire state.
* For the second year in a row, KIPP Reach College Preparatory ( Oklahoma City, OK) fifth grade students outperformed the district in all five subjects covered on the Oklahoma state test (2003-2004).
* TEAM Academy ( Newark, NJ) seventh grade students rank in the top 10% nationally for math scores on the Stanford-10.
* Since entering KIPP DC: KEY Academy ( Washington, DC) two years ago, this year's seventh grade students achieved the 93rd percentile in math. This places them in the top 7% nationally for math scores on the Stanford-10.
* KIPP Summit Academy ( San Lorenzo, CA) students outperformed every single school in the San Lorenzo School District in every subject on the fifth grade California Standards Test.
